Heart Valve Clinic

Heart Valve Procedures:

Heart valve procedures are surgical interventions used to treat valvular diseases of the heart. Valvular diseases involve defects in one or more of the four valves in the heart. These valves play a crucial role in ensuring that blood flows in the correct direction within the heart.

There are four valves of the heart:

Heart valves, such as the mitral, tricuspid, aortic, and pulmonary valves, consist of flaps (leaflets or cusps) that open and close with each heartbeat to ensure the proper flow of blood in the right direction. Any structural or functional defect in these flaps can disrupt blood flow either within the heart or outside of it. In such cases, a heart valve procedure may be necessary to correct the function and/or structure of these flaps/valves.

The treatment approach for these conditions depends on several factors, including the patient’s existing condition, associated symptoms, age, the severity of the disease, and other relevant factors. The expert will determine the most appropriate treatment plan based on a thorough evaluation of these factors.
