Our ophthalmology department is dedicated to meeting the unique needs of each patient, offering a wide array of services tailored to ensure optimal eye health and vision.
Scope of Services
Basic Eye Checkup:
This comprehensive eye examination evaluates the overall health of your eyes, assessing factors such as visual acuity, refraction, and intraocular pressure. For adults, it is recommended annually, while children should undergo this exam every six months.
Advanced Eye Checkup:
This comprehensive examination delves deeper, encompassing tests for specific conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.
PRK(Photo-refractive Keratectomy) :
PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) is a cutting-edge surgical procedure that uses a laser to reshape the cornea, offering a permanent solution for vision issues such as nearsightedness and farsightedness. This advanced surgery utilizes the same excimer laser technology employed in LASIK procedures, ensuring precision and effectiveness.
PRK is particularly beneficial for individuals with mild to moderate nearsightedness (myopia), providing them with a safe and reliable method to achieve clearer vision. By reshaping the cornea, PRK can significantly improve visual acuity, offering patients a life-changing opportunity to see the world with enhanced clarity and freedom from corrective lenses.
LASIK(Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis):
LASIK, short for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, stands as the most widely performed refractive surgery globally. This cutting-edge procedure utilizes advanced laser technology to correct vision issues such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. What sets LASIK apart is its ability to be customized to each patient’s unique requirements, offering tailored solutions through options like WF-optimized, WF-Guided, and Topo-Guided treatments. Notably, LASIK is renowned for its safety profile and remarkable efficiency, often completing in just a matter of seconds, promising patients a swift and effective vision correction experience.
Femto-LASIK:
Femto-LASIK, an advanced procedure similar to LASIK, utilizes a femtosecond laser for creating the corneal flap. This innovative approach offers potentially greater precision and biomechanical stability compared to traditional methods.
One of the key benefits of Femto-LASIK is the increased safety it provides during surgery. The flaps created with Femto-LASIK have vertical edges, which promote quicker and stronger healing compared to flaps created with microkeratome, which have sloping edges. This unique healing process significantly reduces the risk of flap displacement in the event of inadvertent injury to the eye, ensuring a safer and more effective treatment for vision correction.
SMILE PRO (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) :
Experience a flapless procedure that minimizes discomfort and accelerates recovery time. This innovative approach is not only suitable for a wider range of prescriptions but also offers a level of precision and effectiveness that sets it apart from traditional LASIK surgery. Benefit from a procedure that prioritizes your comfort and delivers exceptional results, ensuring a smoother and more efficient path to clearer vision.
Why Smile Pro is the Future in Laser Technology
- Robotic
- Bladeless
- Flapless
- Customised
- Fastest
- Less dry eye
- Retains natural corneal strength
- Noise and odour free
- Painless, fast and comfortable
ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens):
Empire Hospital offers a cutting-edge procedure that involves implanting a lens behind the iris to correct severe nearsightedness or high astigmatism. This innovative approach is particularly beneficial for individuals with thin corneas who are not suitable candidates for LASIK surgery. By utilizing this advanced technique, we can provide effective vision correction solutions for those who may have previously been considered unsuitable for traditional procedures.
RLE/CLE (Refractive Lens Exchange/Clear Lens Extraction):
Similar to cataract surgery but replaces a clear lens with an artificial one for vision correction.
Specialized Clinics:
Cataract Clinic:
Cataract is a condition where the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, akin to looking through a foggy window. This cloudiness obstructs the proper focusing of light onto the retina, resulting in blurry vision, haziness, and faded colors.
Fortunately, cataract surgery offers a safe and effective solution. It is an outpatient procedure that involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with a clear, artificial lens known as an intraocular lens (IOL). This surgical intervention not only restores clear vision but also enhances the quality of life for individuals affected by cataracts.
Options:
- Standard lens implant
- Prescription glasses may be needed
- Toric (astigmatism correcting) lens implant
- Gives good distance vision, reading glasses are still needed
- Multifocal lens implant
- Gives a range of vision and reduces the need for glasses at distance and up close
